If You Want to Get Traffic You Need to Know Some Blog SEO Basics
If you are starting a blog, you are not alone. One question….who is going to find you? Now you may be blogging just for recreation, sort of an online journal, but if you are blogging for business purposes you need to learn the basics of blog SEO. Now my blog is an MLM blog, but these rules apply for all business blogs. Even if you are not involved in MLM this article will prove extremely helpful, but I am going to gear it towards network marketers.
I want you to think about something. How do people arrive at websites? Well there are really only three ways. They know the site URL and type it in. They click a link to the site. Or they find the site through a search engine. That’s it. Being that most people don’t just hold a massive Rolodex of sites in there head, and that if you are new to blogging you don’t have backlinks coming to your site from all over the web, the search engines are your best bet for traffic. This is why you need to practice some Blog SEO basics.
MLM Blog SEO Starts with Keywords
Keywords are the search terms people type in when they want information on the web. If you would like your blog post to receive traffic you should target a certain keyword for good SEO results. For example maybe you are in a nutritional company so you chose to write about weight loss, search “Google keyword tool” and use this tool to determine how many people are searching for the term “weight loss.” Then try things like “nutrition”, or “burn fat.” Maybe you want to try long tail keywords like “trying to lose weight.” The goal is to find a keyword or keyword phrase that is searched regularly with low to medium keyword competition. This way your blog SEO efforts don’t go unrewarded.
Now That You Have Your Keyword Let’s Get to the Blog SEO Checklist
1. Your MLM Blog SEO is Going To Rely Heavily on Keyword Density
My basic rule of thumb is you want your keyword density to be between 1%-2.5%. Blog SEO relies on your keyword being present enough to prove that your article is relevant to the search but not so present that it seems you are keyword stuffing for the sake of achieving blog SEO illegitimately.
2. Blog SEO Requires Your Keyword in the Title and the Description
I guess it should really go without saying that to achieve successful blog SEO your keyword should be in your title, but I did call this article Blog SEO Basics That Will Get You Traffic, so the basics must be covered. Now your description is another story. You should have a plugin installed to your blog that will optimize its SEO. I recommend All in One SEO Pack, or Headspace. When using this plug in you will be asked for a description of your post. This description is what shows up on the search engines under the title. You should absolutely include your keyword in the description if you intend for your blog to be SEO friendly.
3. Heading 1,2&3 Should Meet Basic Blog SEO Requirements
Basically, you should have at least three subheadings in your blog post. All three should contain your targeted keyword. Where is says “paragraph” in your tool bar you can use the dropdown menu to select a heading option.
4. Images Make a Difference in Basic Blog SEO
If you use images in your blog posts make sure to put your targeted keyword in the “alt text” when editing the image. Your blog SEO can suffer a major setback if you miss this basic step.
5. For Best Blog SEO Make Sure You Keyword is (b) and (i)
Basically, make sure your keyword is in bold text and italic text somewhere in the article.
6. Inbound Links are Your First Blog SEO Backlinks
Backlinks are a topic for another article altogether, but they are a vital part of blog SEO. If you link text in your article to another page in your blog you are creating a backlink for the other page, and helping this pages SEO, so don’t overlook this step.
Blog SEO Does Not Stop Here but These are Great Basics to Practice
There is a great deal more to cover if you want to dominate the front pages of Google, but this is the info you need to get started. You can always apply other SEO strategies to a blog post that has been written as long as it was written right to begin with. The most important thing is that you know the blog SEO basics, so all that’s left to do is get out there and start writing.
