I’d like to preface this article by saying I am not a Twitter Guru, nor is using twitter the center of my online marketing strategies. I understand the value it adds to my marketing efforts, and how using twitter helps me build my MLM business. Many people are still a little confused by twitter, so I have written this article for the newbies. Twitter experts and fanatics please be advised that this is basic stuff. That being said there are some very savvy tweeters who are using twitter, or attempting to use it to build there MLM business and they continue to go about it all wrong. Though very technically competent, many using twitter continue to make basic marketing mistakes, so that issue will be addressed in this article as well.

The Three Basics that will have you using twitter today

@ Reply: If you see an @ on Twitter, it will usually come before someone’s screen name. This is a mention of that person. It is a way of directly commenting to that person in the form of a public conversation.

DM: DM is for direct message. DM’s are for private conversations through twitter. You can only send direct messages to people who are following you.

RT: RT is for retweet. If you like someone’s tweet, You can retweet it which will spread the message to those that follow you

Most Network Marketers aren’t using twitter right

The most common mistake I see when people are using twitter, especially with network marketers is all the pitching. Remember when using twitter, and other social media marketing the ultimate goal is still to serve the needs of your followers and add value to the market place. I can’t tell you how many people have an automated direct message that pitches me their opportunity or product the second I follow them. How many things have I purchased???? ZERO. Think about it this way, I’ve heard it said best that using twitter is basically online texting. Let me ask you a question. If you just got the contact information of a prospect, or anyone for that matter… would you then, one minute later, text them to join your opportunity or buy your product or service. Of course you wouldn’t. I still don’t understand why people are using twitter any differently.

How I am using Twitter to build my MLM business

I am using twitter with the same general philosophy that I approach all my online marketing efforts. I provide valuable content that I believe will help my followers, and I share valuable content helping those whose content I’m sharing and helping my followers by delivering more valuable info. The only time you will catch me pitching something when using twitter is if I believe it is of serious value and/or what I am pitching is time sensitive. That’s It. In turn I drive traffic to my website by using twitter because people are interested in the valuable content I am sharing. That traffic ultimately grows my list offering me an opportunity to build even stronger relationships and eventually generate sales.
