Effective Goal Setting | Revisiting Your Goals For A Successful 2nd Quarter

So we’re past the time of year when effective goal setting is a hot topic. Let’s face it it’s never the sexiest thing to talk about even when the dawn of a New Year and clean slate is on the horizon. The reality is, majority of people have already thrown in the towel on the things they wanted to accomplish, or at the very least, accepted a much less ambitious vision of their short term future. Whether you’re on track or off. Goals aren’t just for the New Year, and the mark of the second quarter presents a perfect time to revisit them.

Your Goal Setting Will Be More Effective If You Fix And Refine

I’m all about reverse engineering your goals. Start with the end in mind and work backwards. Break it right down to the daily activities and even better the daily habits that serve the big picture. Even if you’ve done this successfully, I encourage you to consider one thing. You know more now then you knew then. Yes, as business owners we all have an extra 3 months under our belt (unless we are brand new). Maybe the daily activities we felt would best serve out goals should be adjusted. Maybe new information or simply a better understanding of things should have us making calculated adjustments to our goals themselves. Either way its in our best interest to use our experience to more effectively re-set our sights on a successful short and long term future.

Effective Goal Setting Requires Celebration & A Short Term Memory

Forgive and forget….and even more importantly celebrate. Too often we beat ourselves up. Look ahead. Quarter 1 is behind us now., and we can’t bring it back. The best thing you can do is learn from your mistakes and move forward. Just as importantly, give yourself credit for your successes., and celebrate them. I assure you they exist, and they are worth celebrating. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than consistently moving our businesses forward, making progress, begin better today than yesterday. Effective goal setting is a great way to assure you’re in route to the life you desire and deserve.
